Dark Shores

Dark shores is a heavily textured sandy shore, inspired by regular trips to watch the rough winter seas at South Milton Sands with the family. A stark contrast to the warm summer skies. This was painted in conjunction with Light Shores- another painting representing the warmer, but still stormy days South Devon experiences in the winter months.
 
In its purest form, acrylic paint is made from acrylic binders, solvents (such as water) and a pigment (colour). When the water evaporates, the pigment remains and is stuck to the painting surface in a film of acrylic plastic film. The fascinating thing about utilising acrylic paints, is that you can also add other mediums. In this case a rough textured silica/ sand was utilised to create a durable grainy texture on the beach.
